Parents and Athletes-
There is a new fundraiser for Parkway West. It is an extension of Yahoo and is called the Parkway West Benefits Bar. All you need to do is go to this link Benefits Bar and download the search bar. It will appear in the upper tool bar of your internet search engine. Anytime you search for something there will be four sites at the top of the webpage and four sites on the right side of the webpage that are considered sponsor sites. Anytime you click on these sites you earn 10 cents for Parkway West Athletics. 10 clicks a day can earn the school 1$. A small amount but imagine if we get lots of people to download this toolbar and utilize. We are talking some serious money. Any one can download this including Parents, Grandparents, Cousins, Coworkers and all the money will go to West. It will help the cross country team buy new warm ups and a new tent among other things. So please spread the word.

State
We did what we set forth to do. Three days ago it was 60+ degrees and of course for state it dropped to below 40. The weathermen claimed mid 40's and little wind on race day but they could have fooled me. We arrived in Jeff City at about 2 and headed to check out the course at 3:30. The night took us to Arris Pizza restaurant and then some inspiring words from the legendary Coach Cutelli. Natalie had set forth some split goals and I told her to break 19:30. She met her split goals and broke 19:30. I was very proud. She ended up 12th overall and she looked real sharp in her new uniform. The field was defintely faster this year and her patience in the race paid off in the end. Natalie was an all state runner all 4 years which is truly a feat. I tease her by asking if she really wants to graduate because I will really miss her next year.
Our newbie Laura Michel finished 88th with a time of 21:07. I think the cold affected her more than our senior veteran. Overall it was a good experience for her and the team should be proud that one of our younger members made it this far. I hope that next year Laura can rise to the occasion and carry a team with her to state.

Sectionals
One week it is cold and the next it is hot. Unfortunately we ran at 1:15 so the sun had been out for quite sometime. Natalie ran well shutting down towards the finish and placing an easy 6th. Laura Michel moved up in the standings from her previously seeded 26th to finish 19th. She seems to get faster every race. Grace and Claire knew where they were seeded. Both were at the 39/40 marker. We decided to got out fast and try and hold on to top 30. The plan did not work. Grace and Claire should be commended on all the hard work and sacrafice they made for this team. Both were pushing 30+ miles a week and were highly competitive in all of the races this year. As a Coach I could not be any prouder of them. I know that it would be awesome to bring 4 girls to state to run but sometimes the cookie doesn't crumble that way. The sectional got faster this year and that was something that we could not control. Congrads to Natalie and Laura M. for making it to state. Go Horns!!

Districts
A tough, muddy, cold race. We knew coming into this race that we were sitting at about 5th or 6th place. We needed to be top 4 to make it through. The course was changed last minute due to rain and it was extremely cold for 10:15 in the AM. We ended up 5th place scoring 111 points. Parkway Central was a close 4th with a score of 99. There is nothing to hang our heads about. Everyone ran well. I was not expecting to Eureka to run slowly nor was I expecting Parkway Central's Kathleen Thompson to move so far up in the standings. Natalie, Laura M., Claire, and Grace all made top 30. Laura Ritthamel and Maggie Parato continued to break 22 minutes and 23 minutes respectively. Consistency is a great thing. Now both of you know where you should be able to start out in the 2009 season. I will post results once I get them typed up.
